The David Lord Charitable Trust

Thank you for visiting our site!

We are a small non-profit organisation connected to the community of Madikeri in southern India.

We started with the goal of raising money to buy an ambulance for the local community that was to be made available to all, irrespective of ability to pay, and to maintain this service. We achieved this first goal and purchased the ambulance in December 2007 and since then it has been running continuously throughout Karnataka.

We have now moved projects towards children living in poverty, and work with a children's home, sponsoring extra staff members as well as providing educational and creative resources.

Our official mission is "To promote health and wellbeing for the people of Madikeri, India and beyond, through the provision of a fully equipped ambulance for the poor and to raise funds for further philanthropic causes in the region and beyond"

Less formally, we are a small charity run solely by volunteers, with a commitment to help tackle problems caused by poverty on a sustainable and local scale through a variety of carefully planned projects.

We want our donors to know exactly where their money is going and to see that their generosity really is making a difference to real people’s lives.

DLCT back in Madikeri September 2011!

In September 2011, Lena paid a visit to Madikeri to see how the children were getting along. It was a lovely visit and everyone was very happy to be together again. Many new children have arrived at the institution with 32 residents currently in total. The DLCT tutors Helemantha and Francis are providing excellent help to the children, not only as caring parental figures, but through their help with physical and academic education. A highly entertaining (and highly competitive) sports day was organised and all the children battled it out to gain the top spots. Obviously there could only be a handful of winners, but all the children enjoyed and the prizes were shared by all.

02/07/2010: Karnataka at Glastonbury festival!
Lena Liambey (Friday, July 02, 2010)
DLCT_runs_stand_Glasto_smThe DLCT ran a fundraising 'Karnataka' stand at Glastonbury festival in the Avalon field.
We were selling wigs, tshirts, second-hand clothes, Indian accesories and tickets to another one of our fanstastic prize draws.
We had fabulous photos taken by the children in Madikeri on display, which generated a lot of compliments and interest.
Thank you to everyone who supported us, visited us, worked with us...it was a great few days and we raised some decent money for the pot! Well done everyone.
